Brice Detterman is a junior at Virginia Tech studying civil engineering.  In his free time Detterman practices what is known as “hooping”. Hooping involves using hula hoops and manipulating them to create an illusion, similar to a form of dance.  Hooping utilizes the hula hoop prop and propels the prop around the shoulders, arms, and torso to create the flow art form.

“At first it was a lot harder and I wasn’t as passionate about it but once I got comfortable doing it, it was much easier to find my flow and now I see it as an outlet for expression.”

Detterman has attended EDM festivals that perform this type of flow art since his senior year of high school.  Through attending these festivals Detterman was able to find his niche in the EDM world. Detterman has been involved in the art of hooping for 3 years and learned his craft through youtube tutorials and receiving tips from his cousin.  He has found his passion through hooping and considers it his way of expressing himself.
